Ruth Madoff, 70, who stood by her husband Bernie after he was convicted in 2008 of bilking his clients out of $65 billion in a 20-year Ponzi-scheme, has now reportedly abandoned her marriage of five decades, although it’s unclear if she plans to seek a divorce.

Her initial devotion to her husband cost her a relationship with their two sons, Mark and Andrew. Ruth stopped visiting Bernie in prison after Mark committed suicide in December of 2010, and she now wants to patch things up with her only remaining child.

Diana Henriques, author of ‘Bernie Madoff: The Wizard of Lies,’ which will be published this week, said, “I think the remnants of the family will now pull together … [The prison visits were] a major impediment to her being reconciled with them.”

Ruth and Bernie Madoff met in high school and have been married since 1959.
