A four-alarm blaze broke out at the former Vetrotex/CertainTeed plant on Allendale Road shortly after 1pm this afternoon.

An individual working inside the plant placed the 9-1-1 call at 1:21pm.  19 units responded to the blaze.  At last report, there were no injuries and fire officials say the smoke from the plant is not considered to be toxic.   The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.  The city of Wichita Falls has issued a 'code red' alert for a 1 mile radius around the former plant informing residents that the smoke is non-toxic.

The plant closed in late 2008 after company officials determined it was no longer economically feasible to continue operating the facility.  We will continue to follow the story and bring you updates as they become available.
