A grass fire that started at the intersection of Peterson and Bacon Switch Roads earlier this afternoon had consumed hundreds of acres by 5 pm.  One home was threatened just north of the intersection on the west side of Peterson Road, but firefighters were able to protect the home from the blaze.

The fire was advancing rapidly north, driven by strong southerly winds through the recently cut wheat fields in the area.  Just after 5 pm, the blaze was moving towards Griffin Road.  Volunteer firefighters from Punkin Center and Wichita West were on the scene at 5:00pm
