The man who confronted officers from the Wichita Falls Police Department last night in the 100 block of Becky has been identified.  21 year-old Jeffrey Cole Royal was shot and killed in what started out as a response to a 9-1-1 call about an attempted suicide.

According to WFPD Public Information Officer, Sgt. Joe Snyder, at 8:10 p.m. on Sunday, police received a call about a man with a gun in the 100 block of Becky. The caller said the man had a rifle and was threatening suicide. Three Officers located the man seated in a car with the gun. When the man saw the Officers approaching, he exited the vehicle to confront them and fired on the officers.  None of the officers was injured in the shootout.

The Police Department’s Office of Professional Conduct will conduct a separate investigation. The man’s body has been sent to the Tarrant County Coroner’s Office for autopsy.
