Construction is underway for a new water slide at Castaway Cove Waterpark in Wichita Falls. It will be the first new water ride added to the waterpark since the addition of the Cliff Hanger in 2008.

The new slide, known as the AquaLoop, is said to be the most intense and thrilling waterpark ride that has ever been introduced in the state of Texas.

The slide manufacturer describes the ride like this:

"The award-winning AquaLoop will leave riders and spectators breathless! The anticipation begins the moment the rider enters the AquaLaunch capsule which controls the trap door to an incredible drop below. Facing forward, arms crossed, with a view of spectators below, the excitement builds as the rider waits for the countdown. The trap door opens and the rider accelerates into a 37-foot vertical free fall drop generating maximum g force into the looping slide of speed and exhilaration!"

The AquaLoop comes with a price tag of approximately $1 Million. Park manager Steve Vaughn says the majority of the funding for the new slide came not from taxes but from the water park’s own reserves, and that one-quarter of the money came from taxes specially set aside for tourist facilities, sports venues, and parks.

The new water slide was originally slated to be open for the 2014 season, but with the threat of stage 5 drought restrictions looming at the time, park managers decided to play it safe, putting off the construction of the slide until now.

The AquaLoop ride is scheduled to be operational on opening day for Castaway Cove, May 9, 2015. The ride will be given an official name unique to Castaway Cove at a later date.

You will be able to purchase your 2015 season passes to Castaway Cove Waterpark starting Friday, November 28.
