PPG industries announced on Thursday that the company is selling off its flat glass production line to Mexico based Vitro S.A.B. de C.V.

The Pittsburgh-based company has been slowly making the transition from glass production and will sell its European fiber-glass business as well. Some 98% of PPG's business will be focused on paint, coatings and specialty materials.

NewsTalk 1290 has reached out to PPG corporate for comment on the status of the Wichita Falls plant following the sale. As of publication time, PPG had not yet responded to our request for further comment.

The Wichita Falls plant employs about 335 people. NASDAQ.com reports that PPG reported that its second-quarter earnings rose 9.8% on lower costs despite impacts from a strong U.S. dollar masking improved sales across most of the paint maker's business segments.

PPG industries was founded in 1883.
