School in Trouble After Serving ‘Racist’ Meal for Black History Month [VIDEO]
I almost forgot that February was Black History Month until I ran across this story.
Earlier this week the Carondelet High School for Girls in Concord, California decided to celebrate this festive time of year by serving a special lunch menu that featured fried chicken, watermelon and cornbread. Which leaves me wondering where was the grape soda?
Obviously in today's society where we blow everything out of proportion this is not acceptable, although to me that sounds like one hell of a lunch to be served in school.
Parents and students alike were outraged at the menu so of course the principal, who was only trying to do a good thing, apologized.
According to a professor at the University of San Francisco, he claims that the school apparently didn't realize that, quote, "Chicken, watermelon . . . these are stereotypes of black Southern culture that come from the same place the N-word comes from."
I'll be honest here, I'm not black and I still love me some fried chicken. And cornbread, well, no meal is complete without a generous slice of cornbread. This isn't a BLACK Southern thing, it's just a Southern thing.
I bet there isn't one person south of the Mason-Dixon Line that would turn down a plate loaded with fried chicken, cornbread and watermelon. Look at me breaking down barriers.
And I don't see the big deal here, with all the recent changes to school lunch menus these kids and their parents should be celebrating that they get to eat real food for a change.
There's a bigger issue at hand here though. I'm not trying to be racist but African-Americans have a month, so where is the White History month? It could take place in January, because obviously that's the whitest month of the year. That's a snow joke.
