There's nothing like being reunited with an old friend.

Army Specialist Brent Grommet, from Missouri, has gotten back a dog who worked with him on a bomb detection team in Afghanistan after nearly a year-and-a-half struggle to adopt him.

After a roadside bomb put both Grommet and the dog, Matty, out of commission, Grommet filed paperwork to adopt the animal. For reasons that were never explained, the army allowed another family to adopt Matty, forcing Grommet to try and get him back, to no avail.

Eventually, the story got out and the family that did adopt Matty agreed to give him up and send him back to Grommet.

Grommet has two more months left in the army and hopes to have Matty live with him on his base in Fort Campbell, Kentucky until he completes his service. Of the ordeal, he said, "It is like a fairy tale."
