Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth has joined an international trial on the use of a marijuana compound in the treatment of epilepsy.

The hospital will be experimenting with cannabidiol, also known as CBD oil, from cannabis.  CBD oil has shown high promise in the treatment of epilepsy, but does not elicit a high like the THC compound.  However, cannabis is still classified as a Schedule 1 drug with no medicinal value along with Heroin, LSD, Peyote, Ecstasy, and GHB.

This is the first time the FDA has considered cannabis to have any medicinal value.  There are currently ten children taking part in the trail at Cook Children's Medical Center, ranging in ages from 2 to 14, all suffering from Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a debilitating form of epilepsy that results in nearly 150 seizures a day.
