Texas Democrats Know Odds Are Against Them in Abortion Bill Fight

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Senate Democrats say even if they lose the fight over the abortion restrictions bill in the new special session, they will keep fighting.

Republican majorities in the House and Senate are expected to pass the bill in the new 30-day special session that starts Monday.

Senate Democrats, led by Sen. Wendy Davis' filibuster, stopped the bill from passing last week.

Sen. Kirk Watson of Austin, leader of the Senate Democrats, says his party is outnumbered in votes and facing long odds of stopping the bill on the calendar. Gov. Rick Perry and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, both Republicans, have promised the bill will pass this time.

Watson says Democrats will carry the fight outside the Capitol, suggesting legal challenges to any bill that is passed.
