We’ve all seen the rings created by a tree as it grows, but have you ever wondered what those rings would sound like on a record player? Artist Bartholomäus Traubeck wondered, and he’s created an audio recording to share the answer to that question. Utilizing a computer that “reads” the rings, he has released a pieced called “Years.”

LiveScience explains that it’s all done using a custom record player, a PlayStation Eye Camera, and a program called Ableton Live. “The tree rings are actually being translated into the language of music, rather than sounding musical in and of themselves.”

Take a listen and let us know if it sounds anything like what you had imagined.
