Beginning Wednesday, January 16th, until Friday, January 18th, the Wichita Falls Fire Department will be conducting Wildland Fire Fighting training in Lucy Park. The location is in the eastern portion of the park, near the Wichita River and Central Freeway.

Training will take place from 8:45am to approximately 5:pm each day. Members of the Fire Department will be burning off underbrush to practice the proper methods for back burning and clearing, command and control at Wildland Incidents and the correct practices of several other areas of Wildland Fire Fighting.

The City would like citizens to be aware of this training due to the smoke that will be generated by the brush burning. If someone sees smoke in this exact area of Lucy Park they do not have to notify 9-1-1.

If smoke is seen in areas other than the location of the training, citizens should immediately notify authorities for investigation.

For further information please contact Fire Chief Earl Foster or Assistant Fire Chief Jon Reese at 761-7901.
