New Minor Professional League Football Team Makes its Way to Wichita Falls
Ready to take flight?
That is the question Wichita Falls’ new minor professional league football team, The Wichita Falls Nighthawks, are asking. With what has been about a year and a half of planning, the Wichita Falls Nighthawks will be ready to take the field in early 2013.
The Nighthawks will be joining the Minor Professional Football League (MPFL) and will consist of top quality players from around the country. Memorial Stadium will be home field for the Nighthawks with their home games being played there.
The team is owned by Steve Stamper, also the President of Stamper Operating Company in Wichita Falls. General Manager is Jerry Hughes and the Head Coach is Daren Coats.
Tryouts for the team will be held on October 14, 2012 at 2pm at Memorial Stadium. The Nighthawks will be a team that provides everything for its players from helmets and shoulder pads to the latest Under Armour jerseys. Tryout events will consist of: 40 yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, 3 cone drill, 20 yard shuttle, 60 yard shuttle, and position specific drills. In order to tryout you must complete the tryout registration form.
We caught up with Coach Daren Coats and he told us,
“Our team motto is ‘Prepare for Greatness,’ and we really are doing everything the right way to prepare for greatness. We just want to encourage Wichita Falls to come out and experience what we are doing here and get a first hand look at a true professional minor league football team.”
The Nighthawks will also have an elite squad of dedicated dancers that will serve as the ambassadors of the team – the Wichita Falls Nighthawks Cheerleaders. Lead by Director Michelle Hughes, Cheerleader tryouts will take place on October 20th and 21st at the Wichita Falls Country Club. For audition requirements and more information about what to wear, what to bring and what to expect, visit the Nighthawks Cheerleaders website.
With promises of smoke and flames pouring from the Nighthawks tunnel at Memorial Stadium, hard hitting games and entertaining half time shows, the Wichita Falls Nighthawks will be nothing like you’ve ever seen here in Wichita Falls.
The Wichita Falls Nighthawks first game will be on February 17, 2013 at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls. Tickets to the games are set to be just $10 each.
