Stay Safe; Law Enforcement Urges Drivers Not to Drink This Holiday Weekend
This year has been a rough one when it comes to drunk driving in Amarillo, Texas. We've had law enforcement agencies plead with the community to get a ride and end the insane number of cases they were dealing with that involved some driving while under the influence. With the holiday weekend coming up, it's a good time to decide how you'll get around town if you have some drinks. Also, you know law enforcement will be on the lookout.
Labor Day Weekend Can Still Be Fun In Amarillo Without Getting A DUI
I know the concept seems strange for some people, but you don't need to risk everything that comes with getting a DUI to have a good time in Amarillo. There are plenty of ways you can "tie one on", "get your drank on", or "drink to forget" and not ruin lives in the process.
There are multiple ways you can get a ride to where you need to get around town. They're pretty easy to access. There are:
- Taxis (Yes, we still have honest-to-God taxis in Amarillo)
- Uber
- Lyft
- Call a friend like in that show where you answer questions for money, except they're keeping you from getting arrested or killing someone, or both.
- Get caught and take an uncomfortable ride in the back of the woo-woo wagon to a place you don't want to go.
I'm sure if you put your gray matter to work, you can come up with even more creative ways to stay off the road after getting blackout drunk this holiday weekend.
2024 Has Been Bad In Amarillo For DUI Incidents And Arrests
Earlier this year, law enforcement in Amarillo actually reached out scolding the entire city for the obscene number of DUI cases that were worked in one month. There were multiple wrecks and arrests all due to people driving under the influence. It's crazy to think that so many people were so totally fine with putting the rest of us at risk.
We can, and must, do better. This holiday weekend, get a ride. Don't drink and drive. It shouldn't have to be said anymore, yet here we are. Do not drink and drive. It isn't worth the possible cost.
