Homecoming Mums are a Texas Tradition

For someone that did not live in Texas like myself, hearing about homecoming mums was a weird thing once I moved here. Mum is short name for chrysanthemum which is a type of flower traditionally used to adorn the mums that girls wear during homecoming week. Whether it be the parade, pep rally, or homecoming day. The mum has become a huge tradition in Texas and some students at City View ISD just made a massive one.

City View ISD Shows Off Nineteen Foot Mum

Pretty crazy that they needed a scissor lift to help get this thing up in the cafeteria because it is so massive. The City View Career and Technical Education page shared the photos of the mum being hung up this week and the group of students that put the time into this thing sure did an amazing job on it.

Who Has the Largest Homecoming Mum in Texas?

I was curious as to who holds the record for homecoming mums and according to Google. East View High School in Georgetown, Texas claims they have the largest in Texas. They showed theirs off this week that they say is bigger than the previous record of 88 feet long that was set last year by Lewisville High School. We will wait and see who has the biggest in Texas. If anyone in Wichita Falls wants to show off their crazy mums. Send them my way.
