Wichita County voted this week to withdraw from the Regional Public Defender for Capital Cases program. This is due to rising costs and limited local use of the death penalty.

“There’s only very specific types of cases in Texas law that the death penalty can be pursued on, and so thankfully, we haven’t had very many of those. And then it’s ultimately a decision that the prosecutor of the district attorney in any Texas county would make whether or not to pursue it,” Wichita County Judge Jim Johnson said.

According to KAUZ, less than ten people have been on death row in Wichita County in the past century. Let's look at these individuals and see what we can find about them.
