They’re Gonna Play a Baseball Game at a NASCAR Track
Major League Baseball is about to get even faster.
According to reports, the Atlanta Braves will take on the Cincinnati Reds at Bristol Motor Speedway in August of 2025, a first for Major League Baseball.
Bristol Motor Speedway is no stranger to hosting events without motors, including two college football games back in 2016. The half mile oval is one of NASCAR's most anticipated races every year due to the large crowds and more crowded turns.
No word yet on how officials plan on squeezing a baseball diamond on the track, but the stands will have plenty of seats as the track fits 150,000 spectators for races. Fans are throwing out some interesting ideas to spice up the game.
MLB has found success lately with playing games on the road. Earlier this season MLB opened the season in Asia with a series between the Padres and Dodgers, plus another series between the Astros and Rockies went down in Mexico City.
MLB has had some high profile "road" games, in 2021 when the Yankees and White Sox faced off in Iowa on the field where the movie Field of Dreams was filmed. Huge ratings, and a walk-off win gave MLB a huge win, and the league went back in 2022 when the Reds and Cubs faced off.
This season MLB paid homage to the Negro Leagues when the Cardinals and Giants faced off at Rickwood Field in Alabama, home site of the Negro League Birmingham Barons.
Bristol Motor Speedway has a press conference announced for Friday, Aug. 9.
