The Most Charming Small Town in Texas
There’s just something about small towns.
I’ve always found them to be charming. Sure, there are plenty I have been through that were forgettable. But I’m always on the lookout for a cool small town to put on my road trip bucket list.
Admittedly, I’m a tad bit biased seeing as I grew up in a small North Texas town (Vernon). But I would be willing to bet there are plenty of folks who grew up in the big city that love escaping the rat race and heading to a small town for a little rest and relaxation.
So, I was intrigued when I came across a list of the 12 best small towns in Texas by Southern Living.
As a lifelong resident of the Lone Star State, I fully expected the list to be dominated by small towns in the Hill Country. And I was right.
For my money, the Hill Country is the best destination for a Texas road trip. Mostly because there are so many cool little towns down there. I could spend a week in the Hill Country bouncing from town to town and never get bored.
While I've been to several towns in the Hill Country, one I have yet to visit is Fredericksburg. I think that needs to change ASAP.
Because Fredericksburg was named the best out of the 12 small towns that made the list.
But it’s not just the folks at Southern Living who are particularly fond of Fredericksburg. A Google search of “number 1 small town in Texas” reveals several online outlets that agree.
