Why are Texans dying at a much faster rate than the rest of the United States?

As you get older, your life expectancy actually increases, but while that is happening you also begin to have a greater understanding of the ups and downs that come with living, and accept that give and take is important for survival. One of the things that took down the life expectancy in not only Texas, but of the whole country over the last three years is obviously the presence of Covid-19 related deaths.

What do you mean life expectancy increases as you age?

In the most simple answer, once you reach a certain age, your chances of dying from factors outside of old age significantly decrease. Younger people are more prone to dying at the hands of violence, drug use, suicide, and unforeseen illness.

Once you make it to a certain age, about the only thing that is going to get you is old age, but why aren't Texans getting that old? With that information at hand, if you have already lived to be 80 and in good health, it is fairly reasonable to believe you will make it to 81.

How do we know Texans are now dying faster?

According to this article with KXAN,

"Average life expectancy in Texas is now 76.5 years, which is below the national average of 78.8 years. The CDC says the 2020 figures are the biggest drop in over 75 years."

So, why are Texans dying sooner than the national average? It may be because we live bigger lives, and it's not the years in your life, it's the life in your years, right?
