There is a new state bill concerning abortions that is moving on to the full Senate.  The bill would require doctors to do sonograms at least 24 hours before an abortion.

The bill, authored by Houston Senator Dan Patrick, comes one month after the 38th anniversary of the landmark decision Roe v. Wade, which gave women the right to choose.

Senate Bill 16 would require women to have a sonogram 24 hours before the abortion and require doctors to describe to the mother what that ultrasound image looks like and hear a heartbeat if present, though often in the early stages of pregnancy one cannot be heard.

Sonograms are already required, but the folks at Planned Parenthood -- who have been in Austin lobbying against this bill -- said this bill takes it one step further.  Read the entire story at 39online.com
