While gas prices may be coming in a little bit after a four-month surge, they still stand at almost four dollars a gallon. According to a new survey from Harris Interactive of 2,451 adults, these unprecedentedly high prices are causing Americans to change their overall spending habits.

Seventy-five percent of the poll’s respondents answered that they are dining out less, in light of having to pay more at the pump. Seventy-three percent said that they are driving less, 65 percent have cut back on entertainment, 55 percent clothing, 54 percent are going to the movies less and 38 percent are spending less at the grocery store.

About 90 percent believe gas prices will remain high through the summer, so these changes in spending habits should remain intact for the foreseeable future.
