Bowling For Soup – Rock Band


The pop-punk band, Bowling for Soup, formed in Wichita Falls, Tx in 1994.

“In 1998, the band relocated to Denton, Tx and recorded their second studio album, third overall, Rock on Honorable Ones!! (a reference to S.H. Rider's motto ROHO”–Ride On Honorable Ones”-Wikipedia.

The band then signed with Jive Records and their major album debut Let's Do It for Johnny!! was released in 2000.

Dave Willis – Voice Actor, Television Writer, Television Producer


O boy did this one surprise me! David Willis was born in Wichita Falls, Tx and works on shows that you probably know on Adult Swim. He one of the creators, writers, directors and actors of the adult humored animated series Aqua Teen Hunger Force. He was also a writer for Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Cartoon Planet. He's written an episode called New Kidney in Town for Family Guy and co-created Squidbillies.

Mia Hamm – Professional Soccer Player


Mia Hamm's parents were military, so  she moved around a lot.  She spent some time in Wichita Falls playing soccer at Notre Dame Catholic High School her freshman and sophomore years. Later in 1991, Hamm became the youngest American woman to win a World Cup championship at the age of nineteen.

Tommy Tune – Broadway Actor


Tommy Tune was born in Wichita Falls. He majored in drama at the University of Texas (BFA) and the University of Houston (MFA). He sang and danced his way to Broadway. He has been a performer at many of the the Annual Tony Awards.

Frances Reid – Soap Opera Actress


Actress Frances Reid was born in Wichita Falls. She has a lengthy film and Broadway acting career dating back to 1937. She is best known for her portrayal of Alice Horton on NBC daytime Soap Opera “Day's of our Lives”. She died at age 95 in California.

Don Cherry – Singer and Golfer


Don Cherry was born in Wichita Falls and graduated from Wichita Falls High School. After graduation, he entered and won the city's Junior Golf Championship. A month after the U.S. entered World War II, Don was drafted into the Army-Air Corps. When his four years of service was completed he came back to play golf and sing at night clubs. His singing talent was quickly noticed and Decca Records signed him.

Don Cherry was the only man to finish in the top 10 of the U.S.Open and have a top selling song. Don was also the voice of the original Mr. Clean commerciall.

Phyllis Coates – Actress


Phyllis Coates was born in Wichita Falls. She later moved to California in attempt to attend UCLA. Instead she was swept up with a film career that led to being the first actress to play Lois Lane in 26 episodes of the “Adventures of Superman” (1952). Later she played Lois Lane's mother on an episode of “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” (1993). She is still alive and has been in a long list of films, but  she is not currently acting anymore.

Bernard Scott – Professional Football Player


Bernard Scott was kicked off his football team at Vernon High School for an off campus fight after the season. He transferred high schools and graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1993. After a few college football fall outs, like hitting a coach, he was eventually drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Greyson Chance – Singer, Songwriter and Pianist


New success Greyson Chance was born in Wichita Falls but currently resides in Edmond Oklahoma. He was brought on The Ellen DeGeneres Show after Ellen DeGeneres saw his You Tube video of him singing Lady Gaga's song “Paparazzi”. He also won the 2010 YouTube Artist awards for the Hollywood Teen TV Awards. His new album called “Hold on 'til the Night”  just released August 2, 2011.

Dr. Phil – Television Host


Phil McGraw was born in Oklahoma and went to college initially in Kansas. However, he transferred to Midwestern State University and graduated there with a BA in psychology.He went on to earn a Masters and a Doctorates in Philosophy and clinical psychology at the University of North Texas. After obtaining his Ph.D., McGraw went back to  Wichita Falls, where the elder McGraw had established his private psychology practice. He first gained celebrity status with appearances on Oprah and later got his own tv show called Dr.Phil.
