Baltimore Orioles' rookie Trey Mancini turned his first dinger into a family affair.

Mancini went yard in the fifth inning of the O's game against the Red Sox on Tuesday for his first career home run -- also his first hit in the bigs -- in his first major league game. His mother was in the crowd to witness the historic moment, which neither she nor her son will soon forget.

When you consider how much time Mancini's mother spent shuttling him to and from practice over the years and the level of support she's given, you can understand just why she's swelling with the pride that's about to burst out of her.

Making Mancini's home run that much sweeter is the fact it came on the same day his late grandfather -- an Orioles season ticket holder for two decades -- would have turned 79.

"That’s a big reason why it was so special and part of the reason why my mom so pumped out there to," Mancini said.

About the only thing that could temper the Mancini family was the Red Sox, who won the game, 5-2.
