Running of the Bulls is Coming to the United States! [VIDEO]
You’ve probably seen the videos – People running for their lives in the streets of Pamplona, Spain, as they participate in the annual Running of the Bulls. If you’ve ever thought that you’d like to participate, your chance is finally coming to the United States!
The event is being called the Great Bull Run, and the first running will take place on August 24 in Richmond, Virginia. Over 5,000 people have already signed up for the event, which costs only $50 (or $60 for late registration). That’s quite a bit less than what you’d pay for a ticket to Spain plus accommodations. If you don’t want to travel to Virginia, you’re in luck! The Great Bull Run will take place in Houston on December 7, and again in Dallas on April 5, 2014.
In addition to the bull run, you’re also given a chance to participate in the Tomato Royale. This is fashioned after the Tomatina festival that takes place in Bunol, Spain. Visitors to the Great Bull Run may participate in either the run or the Tomato Royale, or both. If you don’t want to get dirty or injured, you can opt to simply go as a spectator.
The Great Bull Run is not for the faint of heart. The Web site for the event states:
The Great Bull Run can be summed up in four simple words: Running. With. Real. Bulls. This isn’t a charity 5k or a simulated bull run with people dressed in bull costumes chasing you down the street. This is the real deal, modeled after the famous San Fermin festival in Pamplona, Spain, but without all the time and money required for a trip to Europe!
They go on to say there have been only 15 deaths in Pamplona’s event in the past 102 years, but that doesn’t make me feel better about having a 1,000 pound beast with horns bearing down on me.
