Last week, news spread quickly about a church in Kentucky that banned interracial marriages. On Saturday, the congregation of that church overturned the decision. The Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church had passed a ban on interracial coupling when a proposal was drafted by a former pastor. The proposal stated that the church would “not condone interracial marriage” and that “parties of such marriages will not be received as members, nor will they be used in worship services and other church functions, with the exception being funerals.”

Although it may seem like it, this isn’t a news story from the past. In a case of pure irony, the Gulnare Freewill Baptist Church in Pike County, KY, passed a proposal to ban interracial marriages in their congregation.
