In a frightening reminder the 2007 massacre on Virginia Tech’s campus that left more than 30 people dead, a gunman shot and killed a police officer at the university on Thursday before apparently turning the gun on himself.

Virginia Tech appears to be reliving its worst nightmare as reports of a shooting have placed the university under lockdown. The suspected shooter, who the institution's website describes as a white male in gray sweatpants, neon green brimmed gray hat and a maroon hoodie with a backpack, has reportedly shot a police officer and is still at large. While details of the shooting are still unclear, the school's newspaper The Collegiate is reporting the cop is dead.
