Heartbreaking Photo of Homeless Boy Doing Homework Resonates Around the World

A Facebook post has shed some light on one homeless boy's plight.

A woman took a photo of this homeless Filipino boy doing his homework by the light of a McDonald's restaurant.

So, who is the child? He's Daniel, a 9-year-old boy, who, along with his widowed mother and his two siblings, has been without a home since a fire destroyed it five years ago.

The photo touched a nerve and quickly went viral. Action has been swift, too, with people donating to help the boy and his family.

Local news outlet ABS-CBN caught up with Daniel, who said he wants to do well in school so he can help his family. He also dreams of becoming a police officer.

Daniel's mother, who earns a mere $1.77 a day working at a grocery store, is certainly touched by the response her son's photo has gotten. She told AFP, "We're overjoyed, I don't know what I will do with all of these blessings. Now Daniel will not have to suffer just to finish his studies."
