State Fair of Texas Bringing Back Sensory-Friendly Mornings
The State Fair of Texas is making it a little easier for everyone to enjoy the sights, sounds and fun of the fair with the return of Sensory-Friendly Mornings for an eighth year.
The special mornings will take place on Wednesdays, September 30, October 7, and October 14, from 10 AM to 1:30 PM. Adjustments throughout the fairgrounds will help create a more comfortable experience for people with sensory sensitivities, including those with autism and their families.
A Quieter Way to Enjoy the Fair
During Sensory-Friendly Mornings, the fair will offer a guided itinerary highlighting activities and exhibits that are easier on the eyes and ears. The Midway will also operate with its usual lights and sounds turned off from 11 AM to 1:30 PM.
Several Quiet Zones will be available for anyone who needs a break during their visit. This year, the Safe Kids Corral has also been designated as a sensory-friendly room for all 24 days of the fair, from opening to closing.
The fair is also joining the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program, with free sunflower wristbands available for guests who choose to discreetly indicate they may need additional patience or assistance.
Extra Support on September 30
For the first Sensory-Friendly Morning on September 30, Joni and Friends Texas will once again provide volunteer buddies for registered families who would like additional support during their visit.
