THROWBACK THURSDAY: Watching a $1 Movie at The Playhouse
It's time for another edition of my Throwback Thursday series. Today, we remember The Playhouse Theater on San Houston St. While it was originally not a dollar Cinema, that is how most of us remember the Playhouse IV. While we are at it, we can't forget the Pizza Hut next door—a perfect Friday night.
The movies might not have been the newest, but it did not matter; all you needed was $1 to enjoy the flick. After you paid your $1, the question became: are you getting the massive theater on the left or the 'alley' theater in the back corner with like 25 seats? Concessions were regular price, but it didn't matter because of the $1 admission.
It was a simpler time, when you had to look in the newspaper or call a telephone number for showtimes. What movie(s) do you remember seeing at the Playhouse? Message us in the app.

We used to have three theaters in Victoria.
The Playhouse was one of three theaters back in the 80s and 90s. There was also the Salem Six, which no longer exists; you will find Toyota of Victoria where it used to be located. Then there was the Cinema IV, behind the mall, which also no longer exists. That is now the strip mall where the Pizza Hut is.
There were even theaters before that. However, that was before my time. I believe one was called El Rancho? I'm not sure. If you know, please send us a message in our app.
