Texas Tanks

It's hard to believe that Texas did so poorly on this survey. I wake up here everyday and it's not-so-bad here. Of course there are some things I'd change if I could, but overall Texas seems like a pretty decent place to live and work. A CNBC sub-survey says very differently.

So What's Bad?

The "quality of life" category was made up of things like crime rate, pollution, and various employment protections. Reproductive rights also dragged us down because many younger workers say the will not move to a state that has these restrictions. We also seem to have a lot of problems with access to healthcare and uninsured persons.

The Upside

The poor "quality of life" stats were actually part of a bigger survey about the best states to do business in. Texas ranked as the #3 best state to do business in, even though we totally shanked the quality of life category. I also have to give Texas personal credit for being a very "welcoming" kind of atmosphere. People here just seem happy to see you, and that's not the case with many places I've visited.

Perception

I hope these type of things don't discourage people from coming to the Lone Star State. As I wrote above, I'm personally kind of oblivious to a lot of the issues brought up. I can't say you won't face some challenges if you move here but these certainly don't seem to be as prevalent as this survey says.
