Tonight, the NFL season officially kicks off. Looks like rookie Jacob Rodriguez will be doing something that no other rookie will be doing this season.

Patriots and Seahawks kickoff the season tonight. For me personally, the season doesn't start until the Cowboys play on Sunday Night Football. Another game that folks will be keeping an eye on locally will be the Miami Dolphins and the Las Vegas Raiders. Former Rider Raider and Texas Tech Red Raider will be taking on the Las Vegas Raiders in his first NFL game.

Jacob Rodriguez Only Rookie in NFL to Wear the Green Dot to Start 2026

In case you are unaware of what the green dot is in the NFL. Players with a green dot on the back of the helmet have radio communications inside the helmet. This allows the coaches to give them plays and other information. Once the play clock hits 15 seconds, the communication turns off. On offense, the quarterback is the one with the green dot. On defense, it's actually up for debate. It's usually reserved for a linebacker or safety. Jacob is the only rookie this year with a green dot on defense.

According to Two Deep, only three NFL teams have not made an official decision for who their green dot defensive player will be. That would be the Buffalo Bills, Tennessee Titans, and Chicago Bears. The Dallas Cowboys selected DeMarvion Overshown to be the green dot player on Sunday. Besides Jacob Rodriquez, he played the least amount of snaps in the NFL last season to wear a green dot in 2026.

Football is back and I can't wait to watch on Sunday!
