The Dallas Stars have been chanting 'One State, One Team' for years now. Looks like a new team could be emerging in the state with some very deep pockets.

Obviously nothing has been confirmed by the league office yet, but rumors are circulating that the NHL wants to expand and add two new teams to the league. As of right now, no need to panic about your city losing your hockey team (yet). Insiders are reporting that the two cities getting new NHL franchisees are Houston and Atlanta.

Houston already is home to every other sport in the big four, with the exception of hockey. In fact, they have never had a NHL franchise in their city's history. The same cannot be said for Atlanta, who had the Thrashers from 1999-2011. The team would relocate out of Atlanta in 2011 and become the Winnipeg Jets (who currently in 2025 have the best record in the NHL).

Who is Bringing NHL Hockey to Houston?

To the far left in the picture above is Dan Friedkin. He's the owner and CEO of Gulf States Toyota. He also knows a thing or two about sports teams. Currently owning the soccer teams  Everton F.C. and also AS Roma. His estimated net worth is around 7.8 billion dollars. So if the rumors are true about hockey coming to Houston. He's got the money to do it. Also, he does live in the Houston area which is why this rumor is starting to go places.

We will wait and see what happens to the future of the NHL in Texas. As of right now, the Dallas Stars control the entire state. Maybe a new rivalry can start with some competition just a few hours away.
