Let this be a friendly reminder to ALWAYS check your lottery tickets.

The amount of people that buy lottery tickets and don't check them is fascinating to me. Maybe you didn't win that four hundred million dollar jackpot, but that ticket could still be worth some money. When you add up all the states, it's estimated around two BILLION dollars goes unclaimed every year. One Oklahoma couple almost lost out on one million dollars.

Noble Couple Had One Million Dollar Ticket Sitting on Kitchen Table

Looks like Robert was cleaning up around his house recently and decided to go through a clutter pile on his kitchen table. Filled with random papers he had put off on going through. Well, inside that pile was a lottery ticket from this past November for the Powerball. The rules vary by state, but for Oklahoma you have 180 days to claim your prize.

Thank goodness Robert decided to see if this ticket had one anything because it was set to expire in just over two months with one million dollars on it. Please be sure you check the lottery rules for your state on claiming prizes. For some it is as short as 90 days and for others you actually have a full year to claim it.

Robert told The Oklahoman he plans on buying a piece of property with the winnings. The couple has been renting for years and this new cash helps those plans move a little faster to owning their own home.

In conclusion, ALWAYS CHECK YOUR LOTTERY TICKETS!
