Amarillo’s First Snowstorm of 2025 was a Doozy! See the Pictures
On January 9th, 2025 Amarillo experienced its first winter storm of 2025.

What was expected to be just a small amount of snow turned out to be something most of us were not expecting. The storm was expected to bring 1-2 inches of snow, but it brought so much more.
How Much Snow Fell in the Amarillo Area on January 9, 2025?
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, the area received 6-12 inches. That was definitely more than the original 1-2 inches predicted.
However, when the snow falls it makes for some great pictures. It makes for a great gallery of snowy fun, from the snowed-in streets to people out having fun, to snow-covered vehicles and pets.

How Did the Snow Affect Everyone?
The snow did wreak havoc. For those who left the house that morning around six, or the school weather teams who made the call to have classes, everything looked normal, and the storm would be small. However, things changed within a few hours, and most schools called for parents to pick up their students as soon as possible on that snow Thursday. Most schools in the Texas Panhandle and many businesses closed on Friday, January 10, 2025, due to the massive snow and dangerous roadways.
Hopefully, that will be our one major snowstorm this winter. It seems that January and February are the big winter months for Amarillo these days, because the days leading up to Christmas and after were mild.
Has Amarillo Thawed Out?
It seems as of today, you will see remnants of the snow on the streets, but we are almost thawed out, until the next time.
