With the rise of superheroes like the Blue Beetle, El Paso has slowly become more and more involved in the world of comic books. We've always had people who appreciated comic books in the city & you can support local comic book stores like Asylum Comics & All Star Comics (which Grizz had the pleasure on checking out).

But what if I were to tell you that not only does their exist crossover between DC comics and Kentucky fried chicken, but El Paso in particular got a very special mention within one of these comics?

A little backstory on the KFC Comic Book Series

This truly unique crossover started off as a promotional campaign for KFC to team up with DC Comics to help draw business for selling more chicken (sounds about right). They originally were given away as free giveaways at Comic Con fand the comics sound exactly as you would expect: Colonel Sanders teaming up with various superheroes in the DC universe like the Flash & Green Lantern to stop evil.

In total, 3 comic books were released between 2015 to 2017 Screen Rant did a very in-depth dive into the law of the books and a deeper look into the background Just in case you're interested in learning more about the books themselves.

So which KFC comic book had a shout out to El Paso?

At the end of issue two, "KFC: The Colonel Corps", there is a page that gives a shout out to people in El Paso, Texas at the very end of the comic book. More specifically it says “Congrats to our El Paso, TX crew for making the Colonel proud!".

This was... very cool to see but absolutely unexpected & random to see after you just read about Colonel Sanders kicking the crud out of bad guys across alternate dimensions..

So what’s the story about this El Paso KFC shout out?

To be perfectly honest… I actually have no idea. There’s very little information regarding on the creation of this comic book series and how/why El Paso TX in particular got a mention at the end of comic number two. Nor do I know exactly WHICH local crew they were thanking; whether it was a specific location or it was just the entire KFC staff in the El Paso area.

The only reason I was able to find out about this in the first place is because I was just watching the original Huggbees video and he included this factoid within the video that talks about this particular comic book series.

Trying to find information regarding this is a little tricky because I’m not entirely sure what the backstory behind this is. I’m sure there are people who would know much more about this shout out and why it was included, so if anyone has any information regarding this, you are more than welcome to reach out to me and let me know!

Where can people find these KFC comic books?

Another reason why there’s not much information regarding these comic books is that they are very rare. Like I mentioned before, they were exclusive as giveaways to attendees during the San Diego Comic Con. However, you can find some hard copied versions that appear occasionally on eBay like here. They go for a few hundred dollars, so just a heads up.
