KISS FM Made A Movie For El Paso’s 48Hour Film Project
What. A. Weekend.
Four people, two days, three hours of sleep, and one short film later, somehow, we did it. The 48 Hour Film Project in El Paso wrapped up Sunday night, and I’m still in awe of what our tiny, sleep-deprived crew pulled off.
This year, I teamed up with none other than Intern Al, a skilled editor who agreed to take on the madness of being director of photography and making a short film in just 48 hours. No budget, no safety net, no time to second-guess a single thing. Just pure creative chaos.
Our film, Radio Silence, became something we’re incredibly proud of. While I can’t reveal too much before the official premiere, I can say it’s an experimental sci-fi thriller that follows a local radio DJ hunted by creatures who can control sound. Fitting, right? Considering I live behind a mic most days, it only felt right that my first film project would bring a little broadcast horror to life.
Iris, yes, that Iris, my morning show co-host, stepped in front of the camera and absolutely crushed it as my co-star. My cousin Elijah also came through in a huge way, helping us pull off some complicated shots that would’ve been downright impossible without him. When I say this movie was made on grit, coffee, and love, I mean it.
What started as a quick, fun idea turned into one of the most exciting and fulfilling creative experiences I’ve ever had. We laughed, panicked, improvised, and somehow came out on the other side with a short film we can’t wait to show the world.
So, to everyone who honked at a group of sleep-deprived weirdos running through downtown with cameras, thank you for not calling the cops. That wasn’t chaos. That was cinema. Also it wasn't us, we were inside the whole time.
