Man Involved in Standoff at Natl. Guard Armory Faces Prison Term

A Lubbock man who was arrested last year after a standoff at the National Guard Armory located near Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport has pleaded guilty to a federal charge.

Forty-eight-year-old Gene Garcia Solis was arrested on November 26th, 2021 after a standoff with various law enforcement officers and a SWAT team that took more than 30 hours to resolve.

This week, Solis pleaded guilty to a charge of interstate threatening communications. During the standoff Solis had threatened to kill his ex-wife and anyone else who confronted him, as well as threatening to take his own life. Solis faces up to five years in federal prison.

According to Lubbock County Jail records, Solis is also being held at the Lubbock County Detention Center on two state charges of Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant. Bond for those two charges was set at a combined $500,000.

The National Guard Armory is located in the 300 block of East Regis Street, less than a quarter-mile east of Interstate 27.
