The Midwestern State Mustang football team quickly jumped all over Menlo College, defeating the Oaks 64-7 Saturday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.

MSU QB Jake Glover got the party started early, scoring on the offense's first play of the game, running in a TD from 65 yards out. The 1st quarter scoring continued with two more TD runs from RB Dante Taylor. MSU lead 21-0 at the end of the 1st.

The 2nd quarter wasn't as fruitful for the Mustangs. An opening play in the quarter found WR Joe Sanders catch a 5y TD pass. The Mustangs offense didn't score again in the half, instead the defense put up 2 points as the result of a safety. MSU took a 30-0 lead into the half.

Menlo got on the board first in the third quarter, breaking up the shutout bid by the MSU defense. The Mustang offense responded on the next drive, culminating with a Peter Smith 10 yard TD run. A Bernard Griffin INT for the MSU defense led to another MSU touchdown (extra point attempt failed), ending the quarter with a 43-7 MSU lead.

Turnovers plagued Menlo in the 4th quarter, with a fumbled punt and an INT both leading to MSU scores. The 17th ranked Mustangs proceeded to finish the game with 6 different rushers scoring touchdowns, scoring 8 TDs via the run game. That feat has only been accomplished two other times in MSU history (10/20/07 vs Kingsville, 9/17/11 vs Commerce).

The Mustangs offense finished up with 543 yards of total offense, 412 of those yards on the ground. A streak ended for MSU's kicker Greg Saladino, as his 55 consecutive extra point attempts was halted on a blocked PAT in the 3rd quarter.

The win betters Midwestern's record to 7-1 overall (3-1 conference) and Menlo drops to 3-5 on the season.

The Mustangs are in action next Saturday, November 9, at Eastern New Mexico. The game versus the Greyhounds kicks off at 2pm. Coverage can be found online at msumustangs.com.
