Medical Helicopter Crash Kills 1, Seriously Injures 3 in Wichita Falls

At about 1:56 AM Saturday morning an Air Evac medical helicopter from Waurika, OK carrying one patient crashed and caught fire in Wichita Falls near United Regional Healthcare System at 9th and Grace Street.

The patient who was being transported from Waurika, Oklahoma to United Regional Hospital died at the scene and three crew members were seriously injured.

Wichita Falls Fire Department says that when they arrived on the scene the helicopter was fully engulfed in flames. A statement from the Wichita Falls Public Information Office says,

Following the crash, personnel from Air Evac Base 34 and United Regional Hospital pulled the Pilot, Flight Nurse and Flight Paramedic from the wreckage and transported them to United Regional Hospital. The Pilot is listed in stable but serious condition at United Regional Hopsital. The Flight Nurse and Flight Paramedic have been transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.”

Investigators are on the scene and 9th Street from Brook to Holiday will be blocked as officials, including the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), investigate.

Although the crash scene is blocked off, hospital officials say access to United Regional’s main entrance, Bridwell Tower and the ER are still open.

The crash also caused several power lines near United Regional to go down. Officials say that Oncor will not be able to repair the lines until NTSB clear the area. The downed power lines have left the North Texas Dialysis Center without power. Patients who need assistance can call (940)923-7889 or (940)631-7601.
