The Wichita Falls Nighthawks joined the Gridiron Developmental Football League (GDFL) with hopes of tougher competition while maintaining the dominance that they have always known. Both wishes came true in game one of the 2014 season when the Nighthawks dispatched the Texas Eagles, 00-00, on Saturday night in Memorial Stadium.

The "Flight Crew" offense found a rhythm late in the 1st quarter behind solid play from their line. On the second possession, WF RB Ontorio Shaw came alive and scored the first points of the season on an 18 yard scamper to the left pylon, giving the Nighthawks a 7-0 lead. Shaw went on to rack up 125 yards rushing in the first half.

Wichita Falls QB Omar Jacobs looked sharp, going 12-22 passing for 190 yards and 3 TDs. Two of those touchdown passes were to former MSU QB Brandon Kelsey. It is the second straight contest in which the pair has combined for multiple scores.

The WF "Nightmare" defense was dominant against the Eagle's offensive efforts. Texas QB Dre Sims was frustrated all night, throwing for only 74 yards passing. The Texas ground game wasn't any better, tallying just 64 yards. The Nighthawks also notched two takeaways - 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery.

The large crowd of Nighthawk faithful were rewarded with a chance to win one million dollars at halftime. 5 lucky fans were randomly chosen and then were allowed to pick from 1,000 envelopes containing different amounts of cash. Nobody found the million, but all five walked away with cash.

The Nighthawks' next game is set for Saturday, June 7, at the Dallas Anarchy. Kick-off is set for 7:00pm. The next home game will be on June 21 vs the Oklahoma City BountyHunters.
