Two of America’s most prestigious universities are doing something that any other private university would consider a sign of clinical insanity. They are offering education, knowledge and enlightenment for free.

In a frightening reminder the 2007 massacre on Virginia Tech’s campus that left more than 30 people dead, a gunman shot and killed a police officer at the university on Thursday before apparently turning the gun on himself.

Virginia Tech appears to be reliving its worst nightmare as reports of a shooting have placed the university under lockdown. The suspected shooter, who the institution's website describes as a white male in gray sweatpants, neon green brimmed gray hat and a maroon hoodie with a backpack, has reportedly shot a police officer and is still at large. While details of the shooting are still unclear, the school's newspaper The Collegiate is reporting the cop is dead.

Adam Wheeler, a former Harvard student kicked out of the university for false statements on his admissions application, has been sent to jail for including the school on his resume when applying for a job. For violating this condition of his probation, he now faces a possible two-year sentence.

A recent survey conducted by Military Times Edge ranks which colleges are best for military veterans. Most of the schools making the list were public, including 51 of the 59 highest ranking four-year schools. The top five four-year schools included Concord University, taking the number one spot, Eastern Kentucky University at number two, Rutgers in third, California University of Pennsylvania

Forbes, along with the Center for College Affordability & Productivity, tallied up the cost of tuition, books, transportation, computers, and room and board to determine the new list of America’s most expensive colleges. And some of them may surprise you.
