A Facebook picture has come under fire, showing Texas lawmakers and conservative leaders slicing a cake as though it were a wedding cake, celebrating the 10-year-anniversary of Texas' ban on same-sex marriage.

The post on the page of conservative group Texas Values shows several Texas lawmakers, including Molly White and Dr. Donna Campbell, participating in the group cutting of a wedding cake to celebrate the state's 10th anniversary on the constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, specifically defining marriage between a man and a woman.  The Facebook post has received a multitude of comments on both sides of the political spectrum, ranging from the intelligent and thought-provoking to the ignorant and spiteful.  Comments include,

Yay! Please keep the sanctity of marriage at the forefront of all your decisions. One man and one woman. We can't let happen to marriage what they let happen to abortion legalization.

My home state's religious bigotry and god-approved hatred for their fellow man deeply saddens me.  It does you no harm when 2 people fall in love, regardless of their gender. You should spend more of your time cultivating love rather than hatred, nothing would better the world we ALL share more.

Y'all need equal rights as much as the Muslims do they don't belong here and if y'all keep it up y'all don't eather America love it are leave it alone.

Ummmm... excuse me. I'm a Texan born and raised. Do not presume any values are "Texas values." That's BS. My values (as a Texan) support ANY kind of love between consenting adults and giving them the freedom and the rights to build a life around that love.  Do not ever presume that your narrow-minded opinion represents Texas. It does not.

Texas' ban on same-sex marriage was passed in November of 2005.  In the ten years since, federal judges have ruled state bans on same-sex marriage unconstitutional.  Supporters of the ban believe a union between a man and a woman is essential in the raising on healthy children.  Opponents cite the 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution which prohibits discrimination based on other people's opinions.

Also on hand for the ceremony was State Rep. Cecil Bell who recently proposed legislation that would withhold the pay of any state employees who conspire in issuing a marriage license to same-sex couples.  Lt. Governor Dan Patrick was also on hand for the event and called for Christians to unite in the battle against same-sex marriage,

It's a battle, but we will be victorious, because with God, who can be against us? We know how it all ends.
