There Are Still Places Where Your Phone Doesn’t Work

There are still places where your phone doesn't work.

Not because your phone is broken or you forgot to pay the bill. You just know you're in the middle of nowhere when technology stops working, right?

Case in Point...

During a random road trip to Dallas last week, my copilot opted for a scenic route through the boonies. While we may have playfully argued a little bit on whether it saved or added time, there was one giant positive that came out of that route.

At some point, her cell service gave out while we were traveling through the wilderness of backroad Texas.

That's not normally a positive thing. Millennials are hardwired to go straight to the worst-case scenario... What if we had an emergency or something, right? But since my cell service was still giving five bars, it meant we would be OK, but more importantly, I got to pick the playlist.

Nothing against the euro-club-house-party-esque idiotic alternative pop music she's into, but we raved to a solid classic rock playlist the rest of the way.

It's amazing how good music can take your mind off a long journey.

That's something we've probably lost a little bit.

We have GPS. Streaming. Text messages. Social media. Podcasts. Notifications. Every piece of information in the world sitting in our lap while we drive.

But there are still places where Oklahoma, Texas and plenty of other parts of the country can make all of that disappear, and suddenly your phone is just a camera again.

I even remember a time when Medicine Park had zero cell service, and it wasn't that long ago.

What Happens When You Lose Cell Service?

Losing that connectivity isn't the worst thing in the world. I actually think that's what a lot of people need the most. A quiet reset.

All the same, I don't want to go back to the days of having to carry on a conversation for three hours. It still sounds exhausting.
