As an ever-increasing amount of people around Oklahoma wonder what mystery illness is infecting so many across the state, the Oklahoma Health Department has confirmed new tuberculosis cases have hit the Sooner State.

That all being said, TB isn't a super-common thing doctors are testing for since it's not very common.

Symptoms:

  • Cough that lasts for weeks
  • Chest pain
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Weight loss/no appetite
  • Chills and/or fever
  • Night sweats
  • Coughing up blood or phlegm from deep in the lungs.

Aside from coughing up blood, any of these symptoms can be identified in those looking for relief from the mystery illness going around Oklahoma.

At the moment (2-7-25) there are 12 confirmed cases of TB in our state, and health officials are keeping a closer eye on anything potentially becoming widespread

Oklahoma health officials aren't ready to call it an outbreak because our state generally diagnoses about 60-70 cases of TB in any given year.

On the flip side, Kansas City is currently experiencing the biggest outbreak of tuberculosis in American history.

You have to keep in mind the Oklahoma mystery illness could be any number of viruses mixed together in your body - here's what's going around - but if the TB symptoms hit too close to home, or you'd like a little peace of mind, ask your doctor to order tests.
