At around 4:35 pm on Thursday, August 28, a landspout was spotted near Little Elm, Texas. To be perfectly honest with you, I thought it was a tornado when I first saw the video below. So yeah, had I seen that thing in person, I would have needed a clean pair of underwear.

What Makes a Landspout Different From a Tornado

Anyway, I googled “Little Elm Tornado” and came across several articles and videos stating it was a landspout. According to Fox Weather, a landspout originates from the ground rather than from inside a spinning supercell, making it much weaker than a tornado.

Of course, if you’re like me, you’re wondering what the difference is between a landspout and a dust devil. The difference is that a landspout is associated with a storm, whereas dust devils typically occur on clear days and are the result of intense heat along the ground.

Whatever the case may be, the landspout in the video looks a lot like a tornado, and I would imagine it sparked quite a bit of anxiety, if not outright panic. My advice in that situation would be to assume the worst and seek shelter. I mean, the sky did look menacing as hell, so it couldn’t hurt.
