Wichita Falls’ Jacob Rodriguez Betting Favorite for Rookie Defensive Player of the Year

We're about one month into the NFL season and it looks like the former Rider Raider is making quite the impact in his rookie season.

Well my Dallas Cowboys broke my heart over the weekend, but I don't want to dwell on that game anymore. Let's share some positive news about an alum of Rider High School here in Wichita Falls. Jacob Rodriguez in his first three games is putting up some impressive numbers and the sports books are starting to pay attention.

2026 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Odds

1. Jacob Rodriguez (MIA) +350
2. David Bailey (NYJ) +500
3. Sonny Styles (WAS) +750
4. Arvell Reese (NYG) +800
5. Caleb Downs (DAL) +800
6. Hezekiah Masses (LV) +1400

8. Dillon Thieneman (CHI) +2500
9. Josiah Trotter (TB) +2500
10. Rueben Bain Jr (TB) +3000

According to BetMGM, Jacob Rodriquez currently has the best odds to win defensive rookie of the year for 2026. Before the season kicked off, David Bailey of the New York Jets had the best odds to win at +450. Here is a key play where Jacob has made an impact on defense for the Dolphins this season.

Jacob Got His First Career Interception Over the Weekend

A tipped ball on Sunday turned into Jacob making a Superman leap to secure his first ever interception in the NFL. Jacob also has 24 tackles on the season and it's big reason why he's leading the way in defensive rookie of the year odds.

Jacob Becoming a Vocal Leader of the Dolphins Defense

Jacob was given the green dot on defense for the Dolphins this season. Which means he's the one that is calling out the plays. Jacob was the only rookie in the NFL this season to start with the green dot on his helmet in week 1. Jacob also has been stepping up in postgame press conferences as well to talk about what the team is doing to improve on defense in 2026.

The Dolphins are currently winless this season, but play Minnesota on Sunday at 3:05 PM. Many of us will be rooting for our favorite teams this weekend, but keep an eye on those Dolphins games. Jacob is putting up highlights week after week.
