Data centers are popping up all over Texas and it looks like they won't be stopping anytime soon.

New article out today from Business Insider talking about how by 2030, Texas could potentially have the most data centers of anywhere else in the world. Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta plan to spend more than $600 billion just in 2026 on data center expansion. Looks like Wichita Falls will be helping Texas potentially get that top spot.

Wichita Falls Welcomes Skybox Data Center

Our newest data center coming to Wichita Falls is from a company called Skybox. They currently operate six data centers across the United States. Half of those are actually right here in Texas already. Austin, Houston, and Dallas have Skybox Data Centers already. You can read more about what they do on their website.

Texas Currently Home to Over 400 Data Centers

You would think California or Texas would be the home to the most data centers in the country, just based on the size of their states. However, surprisingly Virginia is number one with over 600 data centers throughout the state. Reports suggest Texas could take that number one spot in the next few years.

Another Data Center Already in the Works for Wichita Falls?

KAUZ is reporting that the proposition of another data center off Airport Drive was proposed at City Council meeting earlier this month. However this proposal did not go through yet, the developer is working on a new proposal that will be more direct and include stronger accountability measures. The public was worried the site could be used for other projects like bitcoin mining as an example. The developer wants to come in with a better agreement making it clear, they only want to build a data center. We will wait and see what happens with that one in the future.
