Amarillo Zoo Family Friendly Petting Area Construction

One of the things I love about Amarillo is how we love to see things improve. One area that we have really improved in is our zoo. The Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center took over the operations of the Amarillo Zoo & Sanctuary, and they continue to make improvements.

That is one of the places that my granddaughter loves for us to go, so we have been watching the progress this summer. From the addition of a brand-new gift shop to major habitat upgrades, the changes are remarkable, and they aren't done yet.

Exciting News: A New Petting Zoo Is Coming

Of course, they are not done. A more recent change that they just announced is adding a petting zoo to the landscape. This is really a cool improvement. Who doesn't love a petting zoo?

EXCITING NEWS — A PETTING ZOO IS COMING!

The Amarillo Zoo & Sanctuary has received permission from the City to begin working on a small petting zoo in the area where Junior and Jenny used to live!

We’ll be revamping the space and creating a fun, interactive area for kiddos and families — but we need YOUR help!

The area where the donkeys (Junior and Jenny) used to live will be turned into a petting zoo, but they need our help. They are looking to adopt a few animals to add to the experience. They already have Dudley, a potbellied pig, and their goat Washington.

Animal Search: Seeking Mini Donkeys and a Mini Cow

They are looking for a couple of mini donkeys. They, of course, want them friendly, gentle, and ones that are great with people, especially children. Then they are also looking for a friendly mini cow.

How Local Residents Can Help With the New Exhibit

True to their mission of rescue and rehabilitation, the team is hoping to adopt rather than purchase the new animals for the exhibit.
