Representative Chip Roy of Texas has made his mind up when it comes to the 2024 Presidential nomination. On Wednesday, Roy announced via email that he is endorsing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for President.

Technically, Ron DeSantis isn't even running for President yet. He's made no announcements, though he certainly is acting like a candidate for the job. DeSantis has been touring the country including visiting Texas and some of the early voting states.

So why DeSantis and not Trump? According to Roy's email from The Hill, he wants the next President of the United States to be a leader who is vibrant and energetic.

“The next President of the United States must be a vibrant and energetic leader with the faith, vision, and courage to chart a new course,” Roy said in an email to supporters from his campaign account on Wednesday.

“America needs a leader who will truly defend her and empower the people against the destructive force of unrestrained government and corporate excess, profligate spending, and woke cultural indoctrination.”

“That leader is Florida Governor Ron DeSantis,” Roy said.

The Hill points out that Roy's endorsement of DeSantis appears to be the first Congressional endorsement for the Florida Governor.

DeSantis has not officially entered the Presidential race, but it is widely expected that he will do so soon. Former President Donald Trump has been critical of DeSantis recently despite endorsing DeSantis in 2018 and the two getting along until now.

In his letter, Roy did say that he would support whoever won the nomination.
