The worst part of it? These people are already dealing with enough hardships, and now they have to endure this. SNAP benefits were recently impacted by a major data breach, and some extremely important pieces of info were a part of it.

In the breach, a TON of info was exposed, and it was sensitive info that could make life even harder for those SNAP members.

According to the info given, at least 61,000 people had their info exposed in the breach, and that it was something that happened internally. The agency found out on November 21 that the employees improperly accessed the information, and they have since been let go.

The data was accessed over the course of several years, starting in June 2021 and running through December 2024. The agency is investigating the issue and planning on pursuing criminal charges.

Among the data that was stolen:

Names
Addresses
Date of birth
Social Security numbers
Medicaid and Medicare info
Financial information
Banking information
Employment records
Health insurance and data
Other personal information

All of these things can make identity theft a very easy thing for someone, and those that are struggling already will only experience huge setbacks if their identity is stolen and used.

Those that were affected have been notified via mail and other methods, and they are asking you to check your Lone Star Card transactions for any kind of suspicious activity on them. You can visit the website or the Your Texas Benefits mobile app.
